Spasticity is a neurological condition characterised by muscle stiffness and involuntary muscle contractions

Spasticity can result from various neurological conditions, such as:

  • cerebral palsy

  • multiple sclerosis

  • stroke

  • spinal cord injury

Individuals experiencing spasticity may find it challenging to control their movements, leading to discomfort, pain, and limited mobility.

Dr Baguley specialises in botulinum toxin, a neurotoxic protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum.

When administered in very small doses, it can temporarily relax muscle contractions by inhibiting the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter responsible for muscle contraction.

Botulinum toxin injections are a widely used treatment for spasticity, helping to reduce muscle stiffness and improve functional movement.
